"What do you mean"...isn't IBS a real ailment? mmm...no, it isn't.
In my work as a nutritionist and also a colonic hydrotherapist I have many clients who attend for either who have been told by a medic that this is what they have.
Who perpetuated this modern day myth?
I have people who have told me their condition is "incurable", even "hereditary". Nowadays, many people allude to having IBS....but what exactly is it and is it "incurable"? What causes it?
When I trained as a nurse more years ago than I care to admit too, no-one who was ever admitted as a patient had IBS...just didn't exist.
So how are we in the grip of an IBS epidemic?
My opinion is that IBS is doc speak for "it's nothing sinister, you have bowel problems, you just have to get on with it" I lose count of clients who tell me they have tried everything (or everything that allopathic medicine has to offer). Lactulose, Fybogel, Mebeverine etc, etc.
So...what is causing this...simple....chronic constipation......yep, thats it nothing more-nothing less. "Ah" but say you, "I get diarrhoea, not constipation", well guess what....90% of diarrhoea is caused by constipation.
It's called bypass where the watery stuff passes the harder stuff further up. "Ah", says you....but I get awful spasms...yes, because the bowel muscles are trying to push all that nasty stuff out (and the doc gives you something called an anti-spasmodic which actually stops the gut doing what it is supposed to do).
What's the answer:
Fibre...not wheat, the worst for bowels...forget those nasty wheat/bran cereals, but lovely fruit and vegetables. For the really chronic, fresh juice or yoghurt and crushed flaxseed stirred in twice a day will get things happening.
Gut bacteria...not the yoghurt/sugary drink type (you would need 20+ a day for any serious benefit). A quality capsule or powder probiotic can make such a difference.
Colonic Hydrotherapy, a gentle but effective cleansing process. Imagine if you had never cleaned your teeth......imagine you never cleansed your colon!
